Tom Queally Squeezes a Win on Zest

Posted on: 29th Jul 2016

ZEST who has been a little frustrating so far this year won on her first attempt at ten furlongs. As she has been a bit keen in her races this year James has been unsure of attempting to go further with her. Tom Queally rode a lovely race on her to get her as relaxed as he could to ensure that she got home. She just got up on the line to beat Both Sides.

Hopefully she will have got her confidence after that win and she will go on to better things. She was still doing a little too much throughout the race but she is beginning to settle little by little with each race. Unfortunately we are unable to do anything with her at home as she is very laid back and we do not have the problem. She has always looked an exciting filly in her home work and hopefully one day she will prove to us all that she has some of her aunt SOVIET SONGS and sister RIBBONS ability.

HORS DE COMBAT and INDULGED runs at Goodwood this afternoon. INDULGED is a beautiful big filly who will only get better with age. HORS DE COMBAT has a lot of talent but is very frustrating. This evening we have four runners at Newmarket. MAZZINI has been gelded since his last race and we are hoping that this helps him and we see the horse that just failed to get up to win his first race at Kempton. ALWAYS SUMMER is ridden by George Wood this evening who will take 7lbs off her back and is going two furlongs further which will also suit her and it is her first run in a handicap. HE'S MY BOY loves running at Newmarket and this will be his ninth race on the track. He ran well under Hayley Turner here two weeks ago. He looks so well this year and seems to be enjoying his racing more than ever. This is a much better race than he has been running in but I am sure he will try his best. We have always liked ENMESHING who is only having his second race. He is such a handsome horse and a beautiful mover and he often catches the eye on the heath in the morning.

We have YOGI, James's white german shepherd dog, who we thought was going to die earlier in the week back home. He has been on a drip all week and is now on masses of pills for severe liver damage. Everyone has been very concerned about him so they will be delighted to see him back at evening stables. I think they were rather sad to see him go at the vets as he is such a kind and lovable dog but at the same time he is a pretty good guard dog and has been know to frighten some people.
