Weekend Round Up

Posted on: 7th Sep 2015

Both HORS DE COMABT & SPIRIT RAISER ran extremely well in their respective races. HORS DE COMBAT finished third in the BETFRED.COM SUPERIOR MILE (GROUP 3) having got no run in the race. He was the fastest finisher but to late. James's big fear was getting stuck on the rails and unfortunately that happened. He did not have a hard race and hopefully he stays in good form to fight another day. At home he looked in great form and we were pretty hopeful heading into the race. SPIRIT RAISER was second in the TOTEPOOL LONDON MILE HANDICAP (SERIES FINAL) running a great race. She had been raised eight pounds since her last race. The winner loves front running and he was just too good on the day. SPIRIT RAISER is still improving. ELIZONA is a very frustrating filly as she has lots of ability but we are not seeing it on the racecourse. The jockeys dont report back that she is ungenuine so James is thinking of running her over six furlongs next time.

THE TIN MAN and ONE CHANCE ran at York yesterday (Sunday). The ground was not soft enough for ONE CHANCE taking on the class of horse in her race. She comes into her own when it is bottomless and yesterday it was on the slow side of good and drying. THE TIN MAN was a little disappointing. Looking back we should perhaps have given him another week. He had to have anti-biotics a couple of weeks ago and it may have taken more out of him than we thought. He had gone up twelve pounds for his last run and the ground was probably slightly too slow for him. we will forget this run and get him in tip top condition for his next one.

Our two year olds are needing their first races and that will probably be the case with COLUMN tomorrow. He is a well named horse by Mount Nelson. We have the Fred Archer Racing two year old, LORD GEORGE, running at Salisbury on Friday all being well. He is by Sir Percy out of a Linamix mare so his future is more as a three year old but all the same we hope that he will run well.

Wednesday we have SWORDBEARER running in the Legends race at Doncaster. We are delighted to have Gay Kellaway riding him. I think they will get on very well together. DUKE OF NORTH and PECKING ORDER are both running at Kempton. DUKE OF NORTH had not run for a while when he ran at Kempton two weeks ago so he should have improved a lot for that. PECKING ORDER improved a lot from her first run to get beaten a length at Ripon in her second race. She looks in good order at home so we hope for similar improvement for her third run.
