An Up and Down Week

Posted on: 9th Jan 2016

SAM MISSILE a beautifully bred good looking colt bought at the Guineas Breeze Up Sales started his career with a very smooth win at Kempton on Wednesday in in the 32Red.com Maiden Stakes winning by six lengths. James had to be a little patient with him after the Breeze Ups and it looks as if that paid off with a smooth win. He was given a lovely ride by Dan Muscutt who is doing very well on the all weather this winter.

Unfortunately Thursday was not such a good day when James incurred a two thousand pound fine and HE'S MY BOY lost his win at the Newmarket July course in July. He was unfortunately found to have ACP in his blood sample. No sane person would give their horses ACP before a race not only because it is a banned substance but it has the opposite effect to what you want when you send a horse to the races and takes the edge off them and more likely to send them to sleep than perk them up.

The horses look absolutely fantastic and it is hard to find one that does not look great at the moment. The more forward yearlings did a good canter today and they all seemed to take it well. The older horses are all coming back off their winter holidays. HORS DE COMBAT did not have the smoothest of seasons last year but had a nice holiday this winter which he had not had before. Hopefully we can have a better run with him this season and get him winning some nice races. THE TIN MAN stayed here over the winter but was doing a lot of trotting it is now good to see him doing a couple of canters on the Town Canter everyday. Everyday I see another horse who has done particularly well and today it was MISSED CALL. She has never carried much extra condition but now she looks really big and powerful and extremely happy with herself. I am very lucky as Sara Cumani has leant me a hack called TARZAN and am now able to see so much more riding out with the string.

HALLELUJAH was the only horse that worked this morning in preparation for her race next week. She is very good at working on her own and James was very happy after her spin up the Al Bahathri.
