Two Out of Two For Merchant Of Venice

Newcastle seems to be a lucky place for Peter Hopper one of the part owners and breeders of MERCHANT OF VENICE. He is from Newcastle and now his and his wife Jans and Mike & Michelle Morriss's horse has made two trips to Newcastle and both of them successful. His only other race was over 6f at Kempton where he finished down the field. He is from a proper sprinting family so it is funny to see him getting a mile. James always says that Bated Breaths are not only sprinters but can stay. it is funny though that him being from a sprinting family and Bated Breath a sprinter you would actually get a sprinter.

I think it would be fair to say that earlier in the year he was showing very little and it was quite hard to actually get him on the bridle that very few people were getting too excited about him. But as with all the family they get better with age and from the second half of the season he did nothing but improve. He still looked quite a baby at Newcatle and was very green still. Hopefully there should be more improvement to come from him.

His uncle MAZZINI has been doing very good things in Dubail He won his last two races for us before he went to the sales and was bought by Fawzi Nass. He had a handicap rating of 90 on the turf and 101 on the all weather when he left us. They have done very well him and he may easily go on to better things in the Gp1 Al Quoz Sprint. it really is a lovely family to be involved with.
