THE TIN MAN wins Leisurely at Windsor

Posted on: 24th May 2016

THE TIN MAN won his first black type race on Monday evening when winning the Listed Leisure Stakes at Windsor. Although he had an interrupted preparation and it had been quite rushed to get him on to the racecourse he won nicely by two lengths. His intended first race of the season had been The Duke of York Stakes but that had to be dismissed when he had to have ten days on the easy list three weeks before.

He looked a picture at Windsor and showed this when winning by a fairly easy two lengths. He did get a bit tired but he did not look like getting beaten in the final furlong. All being well he will now be aimed at The Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

He is owned by the FRED ARCHER RACING - ORMONDE Partnership of which there are ten owners. It has been a great fun partnership. We have had a few ups and downs. None more so than The Tin Mans first race on a horrible wet grey evening at Doncaster. We all set out with high hopes that our horse was going to run a big race. It could not have been further from the truth as he trailed in beating one no hoper. His concentration was more on the fillies in the stable yard than the job in hand. Two days later he had a trip to the vet to remove certain parts of his anatomy! It was the making of him and he hasn't looked back.

Since then he has only run one bad race and that was our fault. He ran below par at York after a course of anti-biotics that took more out of him and took him longer to get over them than we thought. Other than that we have had a fantastic time with him. James having taken him out of The QIPCO Champion Sprint after his poor running at York then had to persuade the partners to supplement him for the race after an easy win in a competitive handicap at Ascot two weeks before the QIPCO race.

He is a wonderful horse and we are lucky to have him in the yard and looking forward to his next races. I am sure everyone knows that he is a half brother to DEACON BLUES.
