STAR STORMS in at Ascot

Posted on: 4th Oct 2015

Star Storm was given a very confident ride by Tom Queally to come from last to first to win The Cumberland Lodge by two and three quarter lengths rather cosily. He was disappointing earlier in the year but he has got his act together and is looking a very nice horse for 2016. It has hard to get big three year old colts fit if they haven't run as a two year old and it takes several races before they get mentally tuned in. Saturdays race was his eighth this season. He is a gorgeous horse and by a great stallion in Sea the Stars. His mother Sayyedati Stormwas far from a distinguished racehorse having finished 5/8, 7/8 and then in her final race R/R refused to race. Luckily he is not like her. Charlie Hills wife Phillipa told me that Barry had trained Sayyedati Storm and she was quite mad and got loose once ending up getting in the staff loo and was found sitting on it. Luckily he is much more sensible than her although he has his moments occasionally.

It was not FLORISS'S day yesterday. She did not enjoy the race at all and the gaps closed on her. The ground was not what she likes. Unfortunately it was a non event for her. On her day she is a very talented filly.

Next week is busy with the Book One Sale of yearlings at Tattersalls. That takes up most of the hours in the day as it is pretty exhausting. Newmarket trainers also have their horses to train as there is still a lot of racing both at home and abroad. We hope to have RIBBONS (Champion Stakes), GALE FORCE (Stayers) and KNIGHT OWL (Balmoral Handicap)run on the Qipco Champions Day on the 17th September.
