Saturday Work Morning

Posted on: 26th Mar 2018

James worked twenty four horses Saturday and seventeen on the grass on Waterhall which is always exciting. It is an exciting time of year with quite a few unraced three year olds. It is the time when you learn if it has been wise to be so patient or not. A few bubbles are often burst once you start working some of these horses. I am pleased to say that no bubbles were burst so far.

First up were LORD GEORGE, HIGHER POWER and BOMBYX all went nicely. We may easily run LORD GEORGE in the 2m (1m7f169y) Betway All-Weather Marathon Championships Conditions Stakes (Class 2) (4yo+) on Friday. Our biggest concern would be the course as he loves Kempton and Newcastle and Lingfield is very different to either of those. It will be fun having a runner in the race.

Two nice four year old fillies, GREAT WHITE SHARK & LADY BERGAMOT came up together. They are very similar and were bought at the same sale in Deauville and were only about eighty lots apart and they are both grey.

POINTEL had to have a year off but he is back looking in good form. He led MANTOVANI & MERCHANT OF VENICE two unraced three year olds and is looking in good form. SLEEPING LION & SCOONES came up together as did HERBORISTE and SPORTING BILL. Fred Archer Racings unraced gelding THE PINTO KID is improving all the time and he led PEGASUS KID & another FAR horse SPANISH ARCHER. The two fillies MOD & PREENING were the last two up. No disappointments.

The second lot work took place on The Al Bahathri ENVISAGING, MAZZINI and ZEST came up together followed by PTARMIGAN RIDGE and THE TIN MAN'S half sister INDIAN TIGRESS. ZEST may easily run in the 7f (7f1y) 32Red All-Weather Fillies' And Mares' Championships Conditions Stakes (Class 2) (4yo+). Zest was covered by Oasis Dream a week ago so wont be in training all season but seems in very good form at the moment.

We had Peter & Jan Hopper (MERCHANT OF VENICE, MAZZINI, HARRY'S BAR, ARCHERS DREAM) and Sue Law (MAGICAL DREAMER & EXCELLED) and her sister Chris for breakfast and later on in the morning Stuart Moir was out to see DESTINATA.

EXCELLERATION who is a half brother to Aiden O'Briens Painted Cliff and is owned by Fred Archer Racing is having his first race on Saturday. We are looking forward to getting him on the course. I think it will be quite a shock for him but he will come on for it and improve all the time.
