Mazzini Strikes At Newcastle
Posted on: 31st Aug 2016
Three runners and a first, second & third on Bank Holiday Monday. I dont know if MAZZINI is named after the Italian Politician, Tyres or a Footballer but he was making the headlines on Monday when he won at his sixth attempt. He had always been placed either second or thrid other than one disastrous race that we dismiss so definitely deserved this win. It did not look very hopeful half way as MAZZINI and Freddy Tylicki were rather stuck behind a wall of horses but when the gap came quite late in the race MAZZINI knuckled down to win.
If he is anything like the rest of his family he will go on to better things. They all seem to improve with age. He is out of FIRENZE a Listed race winner, who is a full sister to July Cup winner FRIZZANTE and half sister to Stewards Cup victor ZIDANE. Having run an excellent first race to just getting beaten at Kempton in the winter he then took a while to come to himself. Hopefully now he will be full of confidence and go on to hopefully win again in the future. We have had such a lot of success with this family and hopefully this fella will be another one.
Earlier on the card SUSPECT PACKAGE ran an excellent first race to finish third in the two year old maiden. He was on and off the bridle but was running on in the last furlong. He would have learnt so much and will know his job much better next time. He is named after the Manchester United fiasco when a game was called off when the security firm had left a suspect package in the stands by mistake. His owner Paul Dunkley from Appletree Stud is a Man U fan. This colt by Lonrho was bought at the Guineas Breeze Up Sales and will be a nice horse for the future. We were delighted how well he behaved and did everything right on the day,
It was heartbreaking to see KNIGHT OWL get beaten in a tight photo finish. He is a lovely old horse and very much a favourite at Pegasus. He gives his all and it was sad to see him look as if he had won and then to find something else had just got up on the line. He is going to have a crack at The Cambridgeshire now. George Wood rode him very well and hopefully they both will have successful days in the future.
