ENFOLDING wraps up a win.

Posted on: 7th Mar 2017

Sylvester de Souza always had ENFOLDING in a good position. The pace set by the runner up, Specialist, was not a strong one. Shane Kelly on the eventual fifth, Ametie Waltz, took it up four furlongs out. ENFOLDING took it up a good furlong out and looked as if he might be caught but he kept pulling out a bit more to win by a neck. You could not fault his attitude and hopefully this will boost his confidence to go on to better things.

You know that the new turf season is near when you get all the jockeys appearing out on the heath. On Monday Tom Queally was back from his travels in America and Macau and rode out two of FRED ARCHER RACINGS syndicate horses in MASTER ARCHER and our two year old Lope de Vega ex Parcelle Perdu colt. He seemed very happy with both. Hayley Turner was also back in the saddle and rode out two lots. Dan Muscutt has now been riding out for us on a daily basis since the begining of February. It is great to have them all here. We are very lucky to have some excellent full time staff working for us at the moment who are very good riders.

Over fifteen years ago now James and I went on a riding safari in Kenya with Luca & Sarah Cumani, Michael Stoute and Coral Pritchard Gordon and John & Carolyn Warren. We had the best experience imaginable, the highlight for me was riding upside a herd of giraffe. It is a memory that will live with me for ever. Everyday was memorable and made more so by the most incredible guide called Tristan Voorspuy. He loved Kenya and he loved the animals and it was so sad to read on Sunday evening that he had been shot and killed by nomads who had burnt down two of his cottages and were grazing their cattle on his farm. He had gone out to check on the third cottage and been ambushed by them and then shot.

When we were all very young Tristan would come down to Newmarket to stay with his friends Teddy Grimthorpe and James Toller to party at the weekends. Shortly after this time he headed out to Kenya where he stayed. It would be hard to find a more fun really good guy.
