Elite Day at Pegasus

Posted on: 22nd May 2016

We had a very good work morning on the Limekilns yesterday. I think it was the best work morning we have had this year. the best thing of all was to see the horses stretch and enjoy themselves. HIGH JINX and STAR STORM looked great together. LORD GEORGE, was having his first bit of work since coming back from his run at Kempton a bit jarred up, went with POINTEL and SAM MISSILE who all looked to be going well. PRINCESS EVA went with the two unraced fillies ALWAYS SUMMER & JUST FOR YOU, SPIRIT RAISER & SPEEDY BOARDING had a good spin together, ESTEEMABLE who is in foal looked in fine fettle with ZEST & MODERAH. Some of the two year olds had a spin up the Al Bahathri second lot.

KING OF NAPLES yesterday ran in his first handicap at Haydock off a mark of 90 which proved just too much for him. He was only beaten just over two lengths and he ran his heart out but he is only a very small horse and it was just too much too ask of him.

Today we had an Elite Racing Open Day which we all at Pegasus enjoy very much. Everyone seems very appreciative and it is a pleasure for us when it is enjoyed by so many. James had a parade of fifteen horses. This is good education for them and especially the two year olds. In fact it is the older horses that seem to behave worse but on the whole all the horses behaved impeccably and showed themselves well. It looks as if the horses have really turned a corner and most of them looked outstanding. ZEST, INDULGED and HIGH JINX showed themselves superbly, BELLEVARDE of the two year olds looked very well. ROUBLES and TRIBUTE ACT looked as if they would appreciate another week or two of good weather. To be fair it would be hard to fault any of them as they all looked great some of them just showed off that little bit more.

Dave & Jenny King and myself make loads of cakes and they also very kindly come and do the teas and coffees. The members seem to enjoy the cakes and thankfully we never seem to have too many left over.

THE TIN MAN has his first race of 2016 tomorrow. He may easily have gone for the Duke of York Stakes at York if he had not had a set back. Unfortunately he had to have an easy ten days at a vital time. It has been a rush to get him to the races tomorrow and all we hope is that he runs well. He seems to be in excellent form at home and is telling us that he is feeling well but you cannot ignore the fact that he has had an interrupted preparation. He is a funny horse as he makes it very obvious when he is and is not in good form which is a great help. Whatever he does tomorrow he will come on for the run.

BLAZING SPEED who once upon time was trained at Pegasus won another Group One over a mile and half at Sha Tin today. He had won the same race 2014. Unfortunately there are not a lot of a mile and half Group races in Hong Kong. He has now won over £33,000,000 which is not to be sniffed at. He was a charming horse who we were very sad to lose at the time.
