14th March 2016

The weather was rather grey early on Saturday morning, our first proper work morning of the year, but that didn't stop us seeing some nice work. James decided to start off on the Al Bahathri. We had some nice older horses working as well as a few unraced three year olds.

MR PICKWICK has come on a lot over the winter and is now filling his rather large frame. It will be disappointing if he doesn't show that same improvement on the racecourse as we have all been very happy with him at home. The unraced REGICIDE has given his rider James a few nervous moments over the winter but is settling down well with more work and when asked to quicken in his work did so nicely. NOBLE STAR and POINTEL are also unraced and went well in their first bits of faster work. The Elite Racing Club will be very happy to hear that SOVIET SONG & RIBBONS niece, ZEST, put a smile on James's face. LORD GEORGE and SAM MISSILE went together and looked to be going easily enough. A nice group of three who went well were HIGHER POWER, STAR STORM & COLUMN. The fillies ALZEBARH, SILCA WINGS and the BLUES SISTER (the unraced full sister to DEACON BLUES & half sister to THE TIN MAN) seemed to be going easily enough. The old boy KNIGHT OWL enjoyed his spin.

The Johnstones were keen to see MR PICKWICK do his first bit of work in 2016 and were out first lot. Dave & Jenny King are involved in MAGICAL DREAMER who is a smashing two year old filly by Acclamation. After arriving with loads of Easter gifts for us all came out to see MD do a couple of canters. HE'S MY BOY who incidentally looks a different horse this year and KING OF NAPLES owner, Paul Ryan, dropped in to see them.

SPIRIT RAISER and ESTEEMABLE did a little bit together on Friday. ESTEEMABLE has a race on Friday at Lingfield and SPIRIT RAISER possibly in a couple of weeks.

Vivien Tang came to see her fathers horse NOBLE STAR on Sunday. She was very happy with him. He is a nice horse and will hopefully be good enough to go to Hong Kong one day. He was a very backward type last year and had a few little niggles but Mr Tang has been patient and let him come along in his own time and it should all pay off.

Ex Quiet Protest arrived back from Ireland at the end of the week. She looks as if she has grown up a lot since she left us last season. We have had a couple of new recruits arrive. An unraced Paco Boy ex Buena Notte owned By Malcolm Denmark and a nice big horse called GOTHIC EMPIRE who is owned by someone new to the yard.
